SpaceX and Tesla have made some major breakthroughs since then, some of which could only be briefly highlighted in this book. In fact, the author himself advances the fact that the rise of SpaceX and Tesla to the top of the food chain is a journey which has been wrought with an unprecedented level of risk taking.Ī major drawback of this book is that it is already outdated thanks to its coverage of the sequence of events up to the year 2015. No one else would risk it all for such a sci-fi dream in the same way that Musk has.

Musk is undoubtedly the man who has the biggest claim to rising up to the challenge of colonizing Mars. However, unlike Jobs, Musk has given equal investment of his blood, sweat and tears into SpaceX and Tesla with the leftovers for SolarCity. Post the completion of this book, if I had to describe Elon Musk, I would undoubtedly categorize him as a nicer version of Steve Jobs, who coincidently was the CEO of two revolutionary companies, Apple and Pixar.

Being more of an informative piece then a literary piece of work, Elon Musk as presented by Ashlee Vance is a by the numbers page turner about the inner workings of the man who has promised the world a bunch of stuff that sci-fi dreams are made of.ĭetailed accounts of his childhood, his formative years and his rise to the heavyweight category of the space as well as automobile industry have been provided in an action packed manner.
